History

The Calgary Catholic Education Foundation was started by community volunteers in 2009 in response to the need for external fundraising that fits within the values of our Catholic faith. The CCEF was established to ensure that Calgary Catholic schools could continue to provide our children with the best possible educational opportunities.

The foundation is governed by a volunteer board of directors made up of leaders from the Calgary’s community, both Catholic and non-Catholic. In order to receive support from the foundation, schools must apply for grants. All grant applications are reviewed by the grants committee and submitted to the board of directors for final approval.

The foundation is a registered charitable organization (charitable registration number: 82058 2294 RR0001).

The CCEF received support from Bishop Frederick Henry to make an annual appeal in each parish on Catholic Education Sunday in November. The first such appeal occurred in 2009, and to date more than $600,000 has been raised through this special collection.

The CCEF distributed its first grants to schools in 2010. Since then, over $2.7 million has been awarded to schools in the Calgary Catholic School District.
