Marie Jurcevic, Vice-Chair of the Calgary Catholic Education Foundation Board, is a proud Calgary Catholic School District alumna whose journey is a wonderful example of faith, family, service, and leadership in action.

Born in the Philippines and raised in Calgary, Marie is the youngest of 12 siblings. Her family came to Canada in search of new opportunities, bringing with them strong Filipino values of sacrifice, community, and care for one another. Those values continue to shine through Marie’s work today as she helps build communities where people feel seen, welcomed, and empowered to thrive.

Marie attended St. Bede School, St. Helena School, and graduated from St. Francis High School. Like so many CCSD alumni, her Catholic education helped shape a strong sense of purpose and responsibility — the belief that our gifts are meant to be shared in service to others.

With more than 15 years of experience in sustainability, diversity, equity, inclusion, and community impact, Marie has built a career focused on people, possibility, and responsible leadership. She is also the co-founder of Diversity in Sustainability, a non-profit organization creating opportunities for underrepresented communities in sustainability careers and leadership.

Marie continues to give back through her role as Vice-Chair of the CCEF Board, as a member of the University of Calgary Senate, and as a board member of Canadian Business for Social Responsibility.

Guided by the Filipino value of Kapwa — shared identity, connection, and responsibility toward others — Marie’s story reflects the heart of Catholic education: helping each person recognize their dignity, discover their gifts, and use them to make the world better.

The Calgary Catholic Education Foundation is a charitable foundation established in 2009 as a means to provide additional funds for enhanced learning opportunities for students. Together with our community, the Foundation supports opportunities to develop students into tomorrow’s leaders.

We acknowledge that we gather on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy, including the Siksika, Piikani (“Pee-gunee”), and Kainai (“Gay-nah”) Nations; we also acknowledge the territory of Treaty Seven, which is also home to the Tsuut’ina Nation and the Stoney Nakoda First Nations of Bearspaw, Chiniki, and Wesley, and the Métis Nation, and all the people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta. We acknowledge all the many First Nations, Métis, and Inuit whose footsteps have marked these lands for centuries. We respect and affirm the inherent and treaty rights of Indigenous people, and we recognize the contributions of the Métis, Inuit, and all Indigenous peoples have and continue to make in shaping and strengthening our community and country.
