What is the Road to the World Cup?

Road to the World Cup is a district-wide student engagement initiative where schools participate in soccer-themed activities leading up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Schools can take part in simple activities during:

  • PE classes
  • Recess
  • Intramurals
  • School spirit and wellness events

Participating schools can also support Let Them Play through optional fundraising activities while contributing toward a collective district-wide goal-scoring challenge.

The goal is to keep participation:

  • Fun
  • Flexible
  • Inclusive
  • Easy for schools to implement

Similar to a Terry Fox Run/Walk model, schools can choose activities that work best for their students and schedules.

District Goal Challenge

As part of Road to the World Cup, schools across the district will work together toward a collective goal of 100,000 goals scored. Whether students score during PE, recess, intramurals, or special events, every goal counts!

Participating schools will track their goals and submit their totals to help us measure our district-wide impact and celebrate our shared success.

Ideas for Raising Money

There are many ways schools can participate in Road to the World Cup! Here are just a few ideas:

  • Host a “World Cup Spirit Day” where students wear soccer jerseys or country colours
  • Run a “Toonie Kick Challenge” where students donate $2 for a chance to score goals in support of Let Them Play
  • Organize a homeroom challenge for the most goals scored
  • Hold a staff vs. students soccer game or penalty shootout
  • Create lunchtime soccer intramurals or mini-tournaments
  • Set up goal-scoring stations during PE classes or recess
  • Track school-wide goals scored throughout the week toward a collective target

The ideas are endless! Schools are encouraged to adapt activities based on their students, spaces, and schedules.

About Let Them Play

Play is more than just fun — it’s essential to a child’s development, well-being, and sense of belonging. Through the CCEF’s Let Them Play campaign, we are raising funds to build fully accessible, sensory-rich playgrounds at St. Anthony and St. Paul Schools for students with complex physical and cognitive needs.

These playgrounds will provide safe and inclusive spaces where students can play, explore, develop motor skills, and connect with their peers. Features will include adaptive play equipment, sensory panels, quiet spaces, and accessible designs that allow children of all abilities to participate.

By participating in Road to the World Cup, schools have the opportunity to support Let Them Play through optional fundraising activities and help create spaces where every child can experience the joy of play.

Donate today and help build more inclusive playgrounds for Calgary Catholic students.

We are pleased to have this event matched y Rogers Birdies for Kids. From March 1 to August 31, 2026, donations made to the CCEF through Rogers Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink will be matched up to 50%, amplifying the impact of your generosity.

The Calgary Catholic Education Foundation is a charitable foundation established in 2009 as a means to provide additional funds for enhanced learning opportunities for students. Together with our community, the Foundation supports opportunities to develop students into tomorrow’s leaders.
